Ten years since its launch, India’s Smart Cities Mission has reshaped how Indian cities are planned, delivered, and governed. Implemented across 100 cities, the mission moved urban development beyond fragmented projects toward integrated, technology-enabled transformation focused on liveability, efficiency, and sustainability.

With nearly 94 percent of projects completed and investments of over ₹1.64 lakh crore, the mission has strengthened core urban infrastructure across transport, utilities, digital systems, and public services. Cities such as Visakhapatnam, Udaipur, Kakinada, Solapur, and Coimbatore reflect this shift through innovations in clean energy, waste management, digital governance, inclusive public spaces, and urban renewal. More importantly, the mission has established a scalable governance and delivery framework, positioning Indian cities for sustained growth as urbanisation accelerates.
